About
Gabriel Williams
Gabriel Williams, PT, DPT, MFA graduated with a doctorate in physical therapy at the top of his class and received the Outstanding Graduate Student Award from the Physical Therapy department at Florida A&M University where he was chosen to be a graduate teaching assistant.
Gabe has an unusually effective approach to treatment that couples his extensive continuing education training in manual therapy from the Barral Institute and the Institute of Physical Art with his performing and teaching career as a professional ballet dancer. Gabe is also a certified Pilates instructor and was a certified personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).
Gabe has experience in outpatient orthopedics and acute care, as well as the dance sciences. He works with dancers and athletes ranging from student to collegiate and professional, and patients ranging in age from three to one hundred and one years old. He works with athletes in football, soccer, track and field, distance running, ultramarathon, swimming, lacrosse, basketball, volleyball, equestrian, Nordic skiing, alpine skiing, ski jumping, snowboarding, cycling, climbing, and dance of all kinds.
Gabe holds a Master of Fine Arts in dance degree from Florida State University (FSU) and has taught dance at all levels, from beginner to professional, including at the university level. He also served as the FSU Dance Conditioning Studio coordinator, helping to design and implement protocols to assist injured dancers in returning to dancing. This role also included early season screening for dancers to identify increased risk for injury and to help design personalized programs to address deficiencies. He co-authored a book chapter with Tom Welsh, Ph.D. on individualizing training for dancers and has presented research on training dancers and dance partnering at the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science, the National Dance Educators Organization, and The Dance Science and Somatics Educators conference.
A love of movement and curiosity about human potential guided Gabe’s career in dance and serves him well in physical therapy. He danced professionally for several ballet companies (Oakland Ballet, Sacramento Ballet, New York Theatre Ballet, Milwaukee Ballet/MB2, Madison Ballet), contemporary dance companies (Trey McIntyre Project, Idaho Dance Theatre), as well as working in television (GLEE), film (Shteps), and Equity musical theater. Before becoming obsessed with dance, Gabe was a competitor in wrestling, cross country, and track and field (winning the decathlon) in high school.
Gabe is honored to serve Tallahassee/North Florida offering the highest level of manual therapy and movement training available to the region.
